Day 2 : Exploring Trichy – Temples and Drive to Thanjavur

Post lunch, explore the Thanjavur Palace and Art Gallery, home to an impressive collection of Chola bronzes, ancient manuscripts, and traditional Thanjavur paintings. In the afternoon, immerse yourself in local crafts and cultural experiences. Witness a live demonstration of veena making – the crafting of this ancient Carnatic musical instrument is a dying art that continues to thrive in pockets of Thanjavur. You’ll also visit a bronze metal workshop, where artisans use the lost-wax method to sculpt religious icons. Late evening, visit the majestic Brihadeswarar Temple, also called the “Big Temple,” built in the 11th century by King Raja Raja Chola I. Day 3 : Temple Trail to Kumbakonam and Swamimalai
After breakfast, embark on a spiritually enriching day trip to Kumbakonam, known for its temple density and sacred significance. Visit the grand Adi Kumbeshwarar Temple, dedicated to Lord Shiva. Its intricately carved pillars and vibrant temple tower showcase traditional South Indian craftsmanship. Next, visit the Sarangapani Temple, one of the Divya Desams (108 Vishnu temples mentioned in Tamil Vaishnavite literature). It is known for its massive entrance gopuram and sacred temple tank. Day 4 : A Day in Chettinad – Culture, Cuisine, and Colonial Charms
Today’s journey takes you into the culturally rich and architecturally distinct region of Chettinad (approximately 2.5 hours’ drive). This land of the Nattukottai Chettiars is famous for its opulent mansions, heritage villages, and unparalleled cuisine. Embark on a guided walking tour of the Chettinad villages, wandering through narrow lanes lined with palatial homes featuring Burmese teak, stained glass, Italian tiles, and Belgian mirrors. Visit Chettinad Mansion, which tells the story of the region’s mercantile past. Explore the Attangudi tile factory, where artisans handcraft colorful floor tiles using traditional methods. Further check in at your hotel and freshen up. After noon, explore the majestic Thirumalai Nayakkar Palace, a 17th-century royal residence that blends Dravidian and Islamic architectural styles. The grand courtyard and columned halls are remnants of a glorious era. If the darshan was not possible in the morning session, visit the iconic Meenakshi Amman Temple, one of the oldest and most revered temples in India.
